By Wei Huang, Wendy Zhou and Xi Zhang (April 14, 2022, 6:13 PM EDT) — On March 22, the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China published the long-awaited draft implementation rules on administration of human genetic resources.
This 40-page draft for comments systematically illustrates China’s regulatory as well as enforcement approach toward activities involving human genetic resources, signaling China’s emphasis and determination on protecting its HGR.
On the other hand, the draft for comments also responds to and clarifies the confusion and difficulties that have arisen since the regulations came into effect in 2019, which may alleviate administrative burdens and facilitate the research activities of pharmaceutical companies in China.
